Changing Culture

Culture is the Fundamental System that drives behavior.

Culture is a set of mores, practices and norms that are derived from the values and value ranking in a society or group of people, by which the group evaluates and regulates behaviors that are acceptable for belonging to the group.

Since Organizational performance is determined by how people respond & react to stimulus, getting the ‘right’ lived-culture is vital to performance. In that sense getting the required lived-culture in line with strategy enables the execution of desired strategy.

Essentially, If real change is to occur in organizations rather than cosmetic or short–lived change, it has to happen at the cultural level.

If the strategy, that is key to winning, is to respond with agility to opportunities that open for short windows of time, then the lived-culture has to necessarily promote risk taking and tolerance for failures and build a sense of urgency and empowerment. Without this, a bureaucratic, safe response to opportunity will either relegate the organization to losing in the market or at best be a follower and not a leader.
